About MITMUNC

Invitation MITMUNC Secretariat Boston Contact

MITMUNC is a new, unique, and innovative high school Model United Nations conference, focusing on committees that have a scientific or technological foundation. The high school students attending do not have to be science experts - rather, our goal is to have our chairs use their expertise to make the scientific issues accessible to the students, so that the students can debate the policy issues with a better understanding of the facts behind them.

The conference logo is the MIT seal inside the United Nations olive branches. The MIT seal pictures a scholar and a worker, and contains the phrase "Mens et Manus" - mind and hand. MIT has long championed the intersection of academic knowledge and practical skills, and we hope to bring that same spirit to our conference. In their committees, students will use their academic understanding of the issues at hand to engage in collaborative, practical problem-solving.

Though this is a new conference, the staff are experienced. Many of our Secretariat members and chairs have experience from high school Model United Nations and from the Boston Invitational Model United Nations Conference, which MIT co-hosted until 2008. However, we're excited about the flexibility that comes with a new conference, and can't wait for you to see what we have in store.

AIRMUN, Association of International Relations and Model United Nations, is the parent organization of MITMUNC at MIT. AIRMUN has several hundred members in the MIT community and regularly holds events promoting international relations on campus.
